"Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer

Oh what? You're looking for something new to read? Let me change your life by suggesting this incredible book by Mr. Foer. By now, you may have seen the trailers for the film with Tom Hank and Sandra Bullock. I haven't seen it yet as it is in limited release, and I'm currently in my parent's small town, but bet your bottom dollar I'll be seeing it next week in NYC.

I loved loved loved this book when I read it a few months ago. Jonathan Safran Foer is brilliant, and you can't help but to wonder if he's a little crazy too. Even the format of the book is like art at times.

I know the new year is really just another day, but a change in a number, and restarting a calendar seems like a great excuse to make a lot of changes.

All I want is for 2012 to be better than 2011. This has been a really hard year for me. From moving thousands of miles away from my family and friends, to losing my cousin I loved dearly. I just want to live and love and do both with happiness in 2012.

Here's hoping the new year is everything you hope for and more.

incredible California weather,

lunch at my favorite sushi place,

Christmas sweater parties,

amazing slippers that are cute and cozy,

my mom closing off rooms in our house for "Elf" duties,

and lastly...

beautiful Christmas lights at the Mission Inn, in Riverside.

Can't wait for the Christmas festivities to continue, as it is my favorite time of year. Hooray! Hope you're enjoying it too!

I don't think I've talked much about my faith here, and shame on me for that. I know it can be an uncomfortable subject, but sometimes it just simply CANNOT be ignored.

Lately, God has been FIERCELY showing up in the lives of my friends and I am absolutely speechless, brought to tears, and have fallen even further in love with my Lord.

A college acquaintance of mine was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in September. It has been an incredibly rough road, but TODAY she got news that all scans showed NO signs of the cancer in her body. Amazing.

A high school friend of mine was having a lot of issues with her pregnancy, and ended up having her sweet daughter 2 months premature. Things weren't looking great for a while, but miraculously, they ended up being able to take her home a WEEK before she was even due.

I won't lie, life isn't easy. Regardless of your beliefs, the world will smack you down sometimes, but knowing that there's more, knowing that love... There are no words.

I'm not a huge Halloween-er... After multiple fails (remember THIS disaster?) I just don't care anymore. I used to love Halloween as a kid, but as I've gotten older it's magic has just worn off. In January I was POSITIVE I would be the Black Swan this year, but there is NO way I'm getting into a tutu right now...

LUCKILY I don't have to, because I'm working a haunted house this year. It's incredibly professional and they hire tons of professional actors + hair and makeup people, and apparently people cry and pee their pants. SOUNDS GREAT RIGHT? Well, for me, not for them.

I honestly don't get why people enjoy being scared, ESPECIALLY that scared. (Being a ghost hunter you'd think I'd think otherwise... wait, have I not told you about that?) I'm sure I'll be even more perplexed with I see grown men wet themselves.

New Yorker would be me. I'm convinced. I live in this city that has SO much to offer, and I don't do any of it.

I have decided to ditch out on the East Coast winter, so I'm trying to enjoy the next two months as much as possible.

This started last night when I visited Trailer Park Lounge.

I had walked by a few times, and finally took the plunge. With burgers, tater tots, and PABST on the menu, you can't really go wrong.

It's nights like this, that I love New York.

I LOVE the Volcano Capri Blue candle from Anthropologie, but the way I usually bought it, wasn't the easiest on the eyes...

I'm a nerd, I can't help it. I love Harry Potter.

I saw the final film last night at midnight, (so this morning I guess?) and honestly, it was a tad emotional for me.

For some reason, this has been something I've been attached to for the last 10 years. Midnight showings, book releases, parties, Wizarding World, nights of Scene It!, amazing summer vacations reading the books... It's been a part of my life for a good chunk of my life, and it's sad to me that it's over.

I don't know the point of this post, other than to share my Post Potter Depression. Maybe it's to share this quote, which is awesome, and totally true, and if you disagree we aren't friends.

I'm not a fan of living far from home. When there's 2800 miles between me and my family and best friends, I think I can safely say, 'that sucks.'

BUT, I know this phase of my life is only for now, and that helps it not hurt so bad.

"Waaaa, woe is you, you live in New York City,' you might be saying. (and if you are, that's kinda rude) But to that, naysayer, I say, go meet my California people, you'd miss them too.

This summer should be pretty awesome though, so that helps.

I've got the fever!

The Royal fever that is. It's all so interesting to me. Actually, the entire history of the monarchy is fascinating to me. I just finished a book about Henry VIII and his wives and it's amazing.

But in more recent events, (obviously) the Royal Wedding is upon us. I can't even imagine Kate Middleton's life, it's so crazy if you think about it. Growing up in a culture that recognizes royalty, being a commoner, then eventually marrying a prince, and possibly becoming the future Queen of England? That's nuts.

I have a mini girl crush on Kate. I'll admit I know nothing about her, but she seems fabulous. I mean, who else can pull of hats like this on a REGULAR BASIS?

It's so true, especially in my line of work. If I can be frank... (which I can, because it's my blog) it sucks. BUT, it doesn't suck when you know people who know people, and you get to do cool things for free.

Cool thing #1:

My apartment-mate's friend, (who was gracious enough to have me over for Thanksgiving the year I was in New York for the holiday) is a broadway actor, and now in Sister Act, the musical. Monday night he got us tickets to the show, freeeee of charge. The show was so much fun, and afterwards we went to drinks with him, and another broadway actor, currently in La Cage. Also fun + alcohol.

Cool thing #2:

The New York Philharmonic is doing a 'concert' production of Company this weekend. Apartmentmate's husband (yes, I live with a married couple) has currently been working as the Stand In for Stephen Colbert. So for the final dress rehearsal, he got us tickets. Let me just tell give you an idea of who was in the cast:

I'm not the 'typical' California girl. I don't LOVE summer more than anything, I actually enjoy coats and rain boots when the occasion calls for it. BUT, this New York weather is pretty ridiculous. It's the end of March and it's 30, THIRTY, THIR-TAY degrees outside. Last week it was beautiful and in the 70's and 80's... And two days ago it snowed.

I think Jesus (and my mother) daily when I put on this massive down coat, BUT it's the only reason I'm alive right now. So though I say 'down with down', I am 110% sure I would not be alive anymore without it.

Regardless, BRING ON SPRING!

I often get reprimanded for not telling my family what I want for Christmas. I tend to just be happy enough with the season that I don't really think about it, but this year, I have been. ;)

1. Kindle

And that's it... I'm easy to please. I also wish I could shop for more people, because I love doing it, but working 11 hours a week doesn't really let me do that. I've unfortunately had to really cut the list of people I can shop for this year, but I love them so much, and I know they know that.

I am obsessed with this season, I love it, it's my absolute favorite. EVERYTHING is more beautiful this time of year, the lights, the cheer, love love love.

I can't wait for random drives to look at lights, meeting for coffee while listening to Christmas music, baking treats with friends and family... AND, most importantly, I love what it all stands for. I'm so incredibly blessed.

Thanksgiving

I was so thankful to be able to actually spend Thanksgiving with my family this year. Though last year was as nice as it possibly could be for not being home, this year just felt right. We spent Thursday dinner with my Dad's side of the family, and Friday brunch with the Mom's side. It was a little overwhelming, but the laughs, hugs and love are so worth it.

This is the "Nelson Lips" picture from Thursday night. I don't know why we did this, but we did.

Thanksgiving highlight: My Mother, the Ninja.
After praying before we started serving ourselves on Thursday night, I heard something fall to the floor, and my Mom say, I have a wet towel, in an incredibly calm voice. I thought nothing of it, maybe gravy spilled or something. I find out later that a sterno that was heating some potatoes was knocked to the floor, still burning, and it lit the cabinet on fire. My mom put it out, she's a ninja.

I don' know if it was all the traveling or not, but I got SO behind on my Google Reader, I had to just mark everything as read, and I HATE doing that. I feel like I've missed out on incredibly important things... So for that, I apologize.

I'm just going to quickly wrap up my trip with a few pictures from the Monday Night Football game, when my Jaguars were literally KILLED. That was sad, but the game itself was fun to be at.

I'm going to keep up with this more I promise. ESPECIALLY since it is now my favorite time of year. ;)

Also, I've been feeling kind of restless lately, and I think big changes may be coming... So I'll keep you updated.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The only thing in the world that I am a total geek about is Harry Potter. When I jokingly mentioned going to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter on our next Florida trip, and the idea was APPROVED, I could have died happy right there. I'm SO glad I didn't. IT. WAS. AMAZING.

When my Dad and I got to the entrance to Hogsmeade, I literally skipped in. (Yes, I'm 6 years old.) It was BEAUTIFUL.

First stop was Hog's Head to try a BUTTERBEER!

(which was DELISH, by the way.)

As you're walking through Hogsmeade you can go in many of the shops. There's Honeydukes...

The Owl Post...

Zonko's...

Olivanders...

And many others. Including The Three Broomsticks, which was the EXACT same design as the movie... They actually designed the one in the park before the film! Cool little fact.

THEN, as you walk through Hogsmeade, you get to...

HOGWARTS! You walk through the castle to get to one of the most amazing rides I've ever been on IN MY LIFE.

It truly was SUCH a rad day for a HP geek like myself. I loved every second. I have more pictures on my Facebook if you're interested.

Adventures in Los Angeles...

So my sweet friend Mary and I ventured into LA for an event last week. Here's how our night progressed...

Starting on an interesting note, Mary was to meet me in the parking lot of my work, I ran a quick errand, and as I was heading back to my work, a girl backs into me in the parking lot. I call Mary to meet me across the street instead as the newly permitted driver's mother gives me their information. We then hit the road.

Being in LA, we decided to make a little event of it, and hit up the Samuel French bookstore, which is an actor's heaven if you were unaware. APPARENTLY it closes at 6pm, and we arrived at 6:10. Failure number 2.

After trying to pull into a couple parking lots, and failing, we finally stop at a McDonald's so I could change for the party. We take over the bathroom for a good 20 minutes, grab quick drinks, then head back to the car where I model shoe choices for Mary. The man standing next to his car next to us helped us choose the over the knee boots. (Success #1?) The awkward was awesome. He liked the boots over the booties and the pumps. I mean, he was by a nice car, I had to listen right?

As we get back into the car, this MASSIVE BEETLE was on Mary's leg. We're both babies when it comes to bugs, so we just jump out, hoping it'll think that looked cool and jump out too. Negative. We finally had to suck it up, and flick that little bugger out of the vehicle.

So we FINALLY head to the party, and after searching for parking FOREVER, we find a spot down a dark road, and we FINALLY make it. Spent most of the night with one of my new favorite people, Megan, and it was a success. (Success #2) Watched some guy in a cheesy football jersey who claimed to be a 'manager' tell her he liked her 'situation', and it was brilliance.

Okay, maybe everything is just more entertaining to me. But I was laughing like the entire next day too... My friends are the best.

I LOVED this post by my dear friend Kelly. Things haven't been the easiest for me lately, and reading her post made me take a step back, and truly be thankful for all the wonderful things I DO have. This post will be about friends...

-I have a friend who I can plan, and do, the most ridiculous things with, and yet we'll make it an awesome event.

-I have a friend who will drop everything for me, even though her life is CRAZY busy in nursing school.

-I have a friend who is one of the sweetest people I've ever met, knows everything about me, and has never ever judged.

- I have a friend who I've known for 19 of my 24 years, and she is absolutely my sister, not by blood, but is ABSOLUTELY my sister in life.

-I have a friend who kicks me into gear, and supports me 110%, even when I don't believe in myself.

-I have a friend who is incredibly busy and successful, yet ALWAYS makes time for me, and looks out for me.

And ALL of these people love me EXACTLY as I am... Truly amazing. Thanks Kel, for reminding me. <3

The little things that make me happy:

Getting a random text from someone, just letting you know something reminded them of you.

Your favorite song playing on the radio at the PERFECT moment.

Having my brother text me after he got back to college saying, 'I'm here, and I'm missing you already.'

Someone thanking you for letting them cut in front of you on the freeway.

Good phone calls... I hate talking on the phone, so when I LIKE it, that's a sweet thing. ;)

I could go on forever... Which is a reason to smile in itself. ;)

I was lucky enough to assist my friend in a photoshoot last week, and it was my first time shooting manually. For a first timer, I was pretty happy with my work, and can't wait to keep practicing and work on the skills.

Toasted Marshmallow Shake

I'm obsessed with these. I can't go to New York without stopping at STAND and getting one. In fact, the last time I had one, it was RIGHT before Christmas, FREEZING outside, and that didn't stop me for a second.

A little while ago my sweet friend Kelly came over and we decided to make some. We tried to follow the recipie that Emily posted here, but they just weren't right, so we messed with it.

We used:

-Marshmallows (no such thing as too many, the flavor is awesome)
-I tablespoon of plain yogurt
-Vanilla Ice Cream
-Whipped Cream

It was a trial and error situation, and we used like triple the recommended amount of ice cream, but they were perfection.

A couple weekends ago I went to Vegas with some friends to celebrate a birthday. The weekend consisted of:

Blogger fail, it's been too long, and for that, I apologize.

This weekend was my dad's 51st birthday, so we decided to have a little weekend away in beautiful San Diego.

It was lovely and way too short. Can't wait for my next trip, which is Vegas in a couple weeks. We'll see if there will be pictures from that trip...

Birthday Palooza

I've never been a huge birthday celebrator in regards to myself, I'm fine with the one day, perhaps a small gathering with friends... But this year it sure was a Jennpalooza...

My birthday was on Friday, the 21st, where I had a nice day with my family. Breakfast at one of my favorite places, Iron Man 2, mall shopping, a delish dinner at another favorite stop with the fam...

(my goofy brother who always makes me laugh)

Followed by drinks with some of my closest friends.

The next day was a BBQ at my house which consisted of:

vodka watermelon...

Lady Gaga's shade of MAC...

an INCREDIBLY entertaining photobooth, and of course,

multiple games of beer pong.
(don't judge the garage, it was too windy to play outside)

Day 3 of birthday madness was a lovely dinner planned by my dear friend Kelly, with the best cupcake I will ever receive:

and some of my sweetest ladies.

Though it's taken me about a week to recover, it was one of the best weekends ever. When other things in my life are unsure, I have the amazing constant of fabulous friends and family. What an incredible blessing to be shown so much love.

Every time I go to a memorial service (which seem to be a too frequent activity lately) I think of how ironic it is that death truly puts life into perspective.

I went to a memorial service for someone who died very suddenly and unexpectedly. Through the raw emotion and pain, the amount of love in that room was absolutely incredible. All of these family members and friends were in such tremendous pain, but at the same time, so very thankful to have spent the time they did with her.

Obviously this has NOTHING to do with me, but these moments always make me want to be a better person. Life is too short to hold grudges, stress out about the silly things that ultimately are not important whatsoever… Though I feel it’s impossible to live every day like it’s your last, maybe we all need a little touch of that in our day to day.

I am so astounded by how lucky I am in my life. I have so many people that love me and care for me. Though unfortunately those that don’t seem to take the spotlight, I’m going to work on that from here on out.

I’m sorry this is so heavy, I just wanted to say it somehow. Don’t forget to love every moment, and make the changes to BE HAPPY.

And I DID buy the kimono sleeved dress, then I saw how much it was selling for on ebay, and decided I didn't love it THAT much. A size 10 just went for 180. ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY dollars for a twenty dollar dress... Hence why mine is currently there...

Moving

So, it's looking like I'm going to be moving home this summer...

Moving sucks in general, but I'm finding the sting of moving home (which is mostly the sting of my pride) is a little worse... I've been officially not living there for 4 years (not counting my 2 years in dorms), so returning doesn't seem like the best.

BUT, in order to combat those feelings, I'm focusing on the positives...

I don't have to obsess over money, and turn down things I love to pay the bills.
No more rent to pay! Yaaay!
I can actually go to auditions, and not say no to shows because my work schedule won't allow it.
More time with this girl.
Random trips on the boat with my Dad and Brother.
Beach days with friends.
Quality time with my little brother.
I can also finally truly focus on getting healthy and in shape... I tend to get caught up in everything else.
I may get to actually teach acting as my job, which I love.
I don't have to cook for one, every. single. night.
My roommates will be my family I adore, and not clinically insane people.
Girl dates with my Mama.
BBQs with friends.
And luckily, many more...

Though I will miss:

Being 5 minutes from Disneyland and Angels Stadium...
Shopping in Orange County is WAY better than at home...
My Queen bed and HUGE room...
My friends out here...
My favorite bars, restaurants, coffee shops...

I'm doing my best to focus on positives... Here's to change!

I love the feel of booties, and feel like these are the perfect medium for the spring/summer... They have the boot style cut, but a strappy sandel feel... I think they need to belong to me.

2. Tan Bag

Via the adorable Emily, a bag like this would be perfect.

I couldn't find the perfect one, but something like this in white or tan would be perfect for those nights with a little breeze.

5. Red Lipstick

I already indulged in this one today, the color is MAC's Russian Red... Getting used to the shade though will be something to overcome. I'm a nude/light pink gloss kind of girl, but there's just something about being able to rock a bold red lip in any season.

This of course is not including my 2 new Nautical inspired cardigans, boyfriend button down, tee's, and dresses I just purchased. ;)

A Kitchen Disaster...

I can't believe I haven't posted about this yet. Everyone has had these days, so I'll let you laugh at mine...

So my friend Matt and I decided to try to make dinner together last week. When he comes over I usually tend to cook, (which probably isn't the best idea, I'm not all that experienced, but for some reason, we thought a teaching sesh was in order for him...) I had decided on a Rose Penne with veggies and chicken. Sounds simple enough...

Now, I'm not a patient person really, so I decided to try to cook all the things at once. All 4 burners had something on them. Pasta, veggies, chicken and the sauce.

So, all was going as planned, until I decided to move the chicken to the back burner, and the veggies to the front to sautee... Unfortunately I wasn't really looking and didn't put the veggie sauce pan on the burner all the way, and it flew off... Hot oil and garlic, ALL over the kitchen floor. I picked up the pan and put it right back on the burner, and apparently didn't turn it off. We tried to wipe up the oil we could, but continued cooking.

I had Matt chop up more garlic, and when he put it on the pan, BAM, burnt garlic... Which smells wonderfully if you haven't been lucky enough to experience it...

The next fail for me was not taking off my heels when the oil fell... I definitely thought about it everytime I stepped over it, but alas... Finally I stepped and slipped in the oil, and thank GOODNESS for Matt, otherwise I'd probably have a broken something or another... Almost ate it completely.

We tried attempt number three on the veggies, luckily with no epic fail, BUT because of those other instances, the chicken and pasta were already done and getting cold, AND I forgot the parmesean to top it all off... We happily enjoyed a cold meal, that actually wasn't as terrible as you'd think.

Oh yeah, I'm a gourmet chef, if you weren't sure... ;)

I adore this film for so many reasons, and a large one is Kate Winslet. I don't even know what all to say about it, other than I recommend it for sure.

I don't have much to say about movies right now because I realize that it's ALL i've been blogging about lately... The things that have been on my mind have been a little personal, and who wants to read someone's blog of whining and blah blah blah...

I am, however, very lucky for the people I have in my life. It's helpful when life throws you curveballs, to have those people to turn to... ;)

I did a little shopping at Forever 21 today, and some cuteness entered my closet family. A couple nautical striped cardigans, a couple simple tee's, and an adorable dress. I'm SO excited for Spring and Summer... BRING ON THE FLORALS!

This week's film is:

5. The Visitor

I only saw this movie because it was nominated for an Oscar last year (maybe more than one, I don't remember), and I have that crazy task of trying to see the Best Film, Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting Actor/Actress nominees... This was one of my absolute favorites. It's just a beautiful story, so simple, yet there's SO much passion in it. I absolutely adored it, and adored Richard Jenkins' performance. For a while, it was on Netflix Instant Watch for a while, which means you can watch it RIGHT NOW if you're a Netflix-er... (You aren't yet? Seriously?)

I've already talked about this movie, but I wanted to do an official Movie Monday for it... I seriously think every single person should see this film. I'm not one for chick flicks, and the lovely love crap usually makes me either sick or mad. (lovely, right?) I haven't had the best of luck in the past with relationships... If I may say so, they've been pretty messy, so seeing a story about love that isn't all about doves, roses, engagement rings, chocolates and surprise vacations to Europe was amazingly refreshing. It's possible to love someone at one time in your life, and be able to accept that they weren't your soulmate. Though I adore my friends, there are so many of them that I just WISH they would sit and watch this and take in every word...

Anyway, there's my rant... See this movie.

Though this film is incredibly heavy and serious, Daniel Day Lewis is breathtaking. I'm a huge fan of his work, and can't wrap my brain around his performance in this movie. He won an Oscar for Best Actor in 1989, and I can't think of another performance that was more deserving. If you're moved by good acting add this to your queue.. Seriously.

I was reading this post over at Oh, Hello! the other day, and it really struck a chord with me...

She's talking about some advice that Kelly Cutrone gives... Here's some she mentioned:

Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

- Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.
- When you say, 'I love you ,' mean it.

Lately I've really been noticing how difficult the bold and italicized item is for me. I have my baggage, we all do, but I have a really really hard time letting people in, and trusting them. I've been calling it 'self-sabotage', because I say and do things that seem to just be a definite way to mess things up... Being 23 you'd think I'd have this stuff more together, but I feel 12 when it comes to this.

I didn't really make any resolutions for 2010, other than to stop drinking soda, (which is going swimmingly, thank you), so I think this may be it. Love deeply and passionately, and just take it for what it is. I'm terrified, but here goes...

Movie Monday

I want to start a series where I can recommend a movie that I love. I will admit I'm quite a movie snob, since acting is what I want to do in my future, so having a space where I can say what I want about films I adore without having people tell me Jackass is better, sounds like a grand plan.

So to start it off, the first film I will recommend is:

1. The Fall

This film is relatively unknown but it's one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. First off, it has Lee Pace, bam, point number one.. Number two: all locations in this film are real, which is just amazing, some of these settings are absolutely stunning. And number three: The little girl in this movie actually learned English as they were filming, so they shot the film in the correct sequential order (which is almost unheard of) so that her English would get better throughout the movie.

Netflix it, trust me.

Chalk it to me!

So, I adore the film (500) Days of Summer for SO many reasons. I watched it again with my Mom yesterday, and once again, became obsessed with the chalkboard wall in Tom's room.

He has it right behind his bed, and draws on the headboard for his bed. I love love love this idea. After some searching I found some awesome people who have done this in their homes.

I so wish I could do this in the home I'm living in now, but there are 2 big roadblocks. #1: The house is old, so the walls of the home are not smooth enough to use the chalkboard paint. And #2: I may be moving soon...

BUT, after work today, (of course I'm posting from work) I'm going to see what I can find at Target. Maybe a bunch of smaller ones I can put together and double-sided-tape it to the wall... I'll let you know. ;)

Wow, this year flew by. The older I get, the quicker time flies. Bizarre. Though 2009 was a pretty good year, I'm more than ready for a new one with new beginnings. I finally purchased a bottle of Lippmann's Happy Birthday and I'm ready to rock this New Years Eve!

I am ridiculously in love with Christmas. It's my absolute favorite holiday, and I'm always pretty sad when it's over. I love what it stands for, family time, love, friends, decorations...

I love GIVING gifts, but am pretty awkward about receiving them... Not sure why.

A little while ago I saw a post over at Color Me Katie where she played with paper filters with her camera. I randomly remembered it and tried myself. Now I'm obsessed.

Among other sweet and lovely gifts, one that meant the most to me was this from my Mom. I love this story so much.

And the play I was in in New York City last year was published and my name was in there. ;)

Hi readers, friends and strangers alike.

I apologize for my absence. It tends to keep happening...

Well I'm back in California. And exhausted and jet lagged. The only other time Ive ever really felt it this bad was when I came back from 3 weeks in France, and got very sick upon my return. I'm not sick, just exhausted.

I'm so looking forward to Christmas though. Two and a half months without my family and friends was difficult, so I'm more than thrilled to see everyone. I also think I did pretty decent with the gift purchasing this year, yay! I love giving gifts, but feel awkward receiving them. Not so much from my family, mostly just friends. I basically already know what I'm getting since I didn't give the family a list and they kidnapped me and brought me to the mall this past weekend to show them things I wanted. I'm most excited about all the goods from Sephora.

I'm a little sad I missed all the snow in New York, literally by a day, BUT my flights would have probably been all messed up, and they already were with me leaving on time, so I'm thankful I didn't have to deal with that...

Wow, what an exciting post eh? I'm super tired, and throwing a cookie exchange party tonight. I'm crazy.

Sorry for my absence. Since the week of Thanksgiving I've been running around with my head cut off, doing New York-y things.

One thing I do want to share with you guys is the AMAZING exhibit at MoMa (The Museum of Modern Art) that is all Tim Burton. I've gone twice. There were the characters from Nightmare Before Christmas, and from The Corpse Bride. There were also TONS of brilliant sketches, old poems and school assignments, costume pieces from Edward Scissorhands, Batman and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... It was awesome. If you'll be in the city Before March, and enjoy Mr. Burton's work, GO! So worth it. Here are some photos I found on the MoMa website.

It was a confusing day in New York City today... During the day I did some Christmas shopping in Herald Square and took pictures of the windows in Macy's (for you guys, of course) then went over to Central Park to watch the balloons being inflated for the Thanksgiving Day parade... Here are some pictures I took.

Bryant Park

My dear friend Kate and I had a little date last night before she went home for Thanksgiving. We decided to go to Bryant Park, which is absolutely adorable for the Holidays. There is an ice skating rink, with little shops set up all around.

I also found things I NEED to duplicate, and possibly open an Etsy shop. We'll see if that happens though... I get excited about things easily, then over them quickly. I'm not going to post pictures of them just yet...

We then made a Starbucks stop for holiday drinks, and a Polar Bear cookie.

I love the days where I'm just absolutely in love with this city... And I've had 3 in a row. ;)

Brooklyn Flea Market

I FINALLY got the chance to go to the Brooklyn Flea Market this weekend... I wanted to take pictures of everything while I was there, but my hands were basically constantly full. I'm not going to post pictures of everything, since some are gifts, but I want to post some...

I got some cupcakes from Kumquat Cupcakes.

Though I don't remember all the flavors there were Chocolate Lavender, Red Velvet, and MAPLE BACON!

Yeah, that's bacon on the top of one... Haven't tried it yet, I'll let you know. The Chocolate Lavender was delish.

And I apologize for these pictures not being that great, but here's both an AMAZING mermaid ring, and the face of a vintage watch ring...

I did a little dent in my Christmas shopping list... Can't wait until I get more done.

Sample Sale!

Hello readers!

Forgive my absence, I've been struggling a bit with some things lately, but I decided to make a shift in my thought process, and I feel 100 times better. I've decided to just 'be' in the moment, and not to stress about the things that are really not in my control. So, here's to looking up!

On Tuesday night, I was invited to the VIP night of Rebecca Minkoff's Sample Sale. Goodness do I wish I was in a better financial position to have purchased her bags. If you don't know her designs, look them up. I love them. I already own her Paper/Plastic wallet which I love.

Since I couldn't really afford much, well, technically shouldn't have gotten anything, I got myself just something little. This is her 'Kiss and Makeup' makeup bag, which I might actually use for a little clutch. The pictures, though pretty good, don't do the color justice. I love it.

I walked in the room, saw this bag, did a little round, grabbed a glass of champagne (c'mon, how did people pass up free champagne while shopping?) and laughed at the people holding 5+ bags at around $300 on average... Oh goodness, maybe someday I'll be like that. For now my ADORABLE Kiss and Makeup will have to do, and trust me, it will. ;)

Now i'm onto intense Christmas shopping. I'd LOVE to finish soon so I can ship everything home. Anyone have any brilliant ideas they'd like to share?

During my stupid week and a half long illness, which honestly still isn't completely gone, I had all the time in in the world to read basically every blog I could find. Somehow, I found nail polish comments, did my own searching, and found 2 new loves.

This is Zoya Trixie, got it in the mail today, and adore it. It's metallic, and super shimmery. Another one I want is:

Lippmann's Happy Birthday. I'd rock about 5 coats of this for New Years!

The other day my dear friend Kate and I got to see Jude Law in Hamlet on Broadway. Now, I'll admit I'm a theatre snob, and didn't know what to expect, but man, Jude was brilliant, and gorgeous. If you're in the city and have a chance to see it before December 6th, I highly recommend it. We also met him after wards and had him sign our programs, but I won't brag about that... ;)

I also had a very nice walk through Central Park the other day, in the midst of my sickness, because I just HAD to get out. I want to do another one soon, and I'll post all the pictures together.

Halloween in NYC

Here's my story, no embellishments... BUT first let me say, ever since I grew out of the 'little kid, trick or treating' phase of Halloween, I've kind of disliked it. I've yet to have a fun 'grown-up' Halloween, so I usually don't tend to care much about the holiday...

So my 'roommate' here wanted to do something fun, and planned a little adventure. We got all dressed up, (She was a perfect Mary Poppins, while I was Rachel Zoe), and headed downtown with a couple of friends to go to the Halloween Parade, which is apparently a big deal. The crowds were INSANE, and just kept getting worse the closer we got to the actual festivities. We found ourselves on a crazy block that was absolutely filled with people. Literally, felt EVERY part of the bodies around me, one of THOSE crowds. After trying to push and shove to the other side, I got separated from everyone else, and just decided to give up and head in the other direction, out of the madness. After losing them, I decided to just go home. I had been sick the last week, still wasn't feeling 100%, and was fine with the idea of not attending both the parade, and the party after, where I would know a grand total of 2 people.

So as I was heading back to the subway, it starts to pour. And I'm wearing heels, and TONS of jewelry, and trying not to eat it on the messy streets of NYC. I finally make it to a station, about 10 blocks later, and as I'm going down the stairs, either get pushed, or stepped on the person's dress in front of me, and eat it down the stairs. LUCKILY, I was still holding on to the rail, in fear this might happen, and only fall about 5 steps, my bag goes flying, (LUCKILY was zipped up) tweak my ankle a bit, and scratch my finger. Pretty sure I yelled 'shit', then proceeded to pick up my bag, throw back my soaking wet hair and continue to the train. Get on one, FINALLY get home, change into sweats, and cuddle on the couch with Millie, ice cream, and Nightmare Before Christmas.

That was my Halloween.

Weight a minute...

Now, this will possibly be the dumbest thing you've ever heard but, I started Wii Fit the other day, and after taking all the tests, the system added a few pounds to my Mii. I saw it, and have never been so motivated to get healthy and lose weight. My Mii isn't nearly as cute when she's pudgy... Time to get a'workin'!

I wanted to introduce you to the reason I came to New York City...

This is Millie. She's cute.

Last night, my friend Kate and I had a little friend date. It started with a stroll through Central Park. It was a little chilly, so we were rocking the jackets, coats and boots. Then a stop into FAO Schwarz, a coffee stop, and window shopping down 5th Avenue in the rain. Then dinner at an adorable little place in Little Italy, delish pasta and wine. Made for a wonderful night. I love this city.

I love the little moments in the city.

For example, I was going to babysit last night for a family that lives right behind the Museum of Natural History. I gave myself more time than needed and stopped in a local coffee shop. I got a latte, and grabbed a seat by the window, and just watched the beautiful New Yorkers. There's just something about the spirit of this city I fall in love with. And it doesn't hurt that they're mostly wonderfully dressed, in coats, scarves, boots...

Countdown: I'M HERE!

I'm here! Sorry it took me so long to blog. It's been a crazy few days... While checking the weather last week it was in the 60's, but the last couple days it's been pretty chilly! I've been able to wear my coats, scarves and boots, and if you know me, you know I couldn't be more thrilled.

So far I haven't hit any of the faves, as I'm in a new part of town. This morning I woke up SUPPPPER early to try to hit an audition, but being non-union makes that difficult. (Feel free to ask me about the life of a wanna-be actor, I won't complain about it here).

Anyway, just wanted to check in and tell you all I'm alive, I'm waiting for my nice camera to follow me in the mail, as my suitcase was EXACTLY 50.0 pounds, I had to mail it. Then the awesome photos of this awesome city will follow...
